AND THE WINNERS ARE . . .

This year’s Trunk-or-Treat and Food Drive was another great success!  Together, we collected about 100 pounds of food and raised $10 for Just Food Douglas County. Even though $10 doesn’t sound like a lot, it is enough to provide 50 meals to food insecure residents of Douglas County.

AND, we had a great variety of trunks and booths with games and treats to delight kids and adult. There were many cute, scary, creative and crazy costumes on display.   Everyone did a fantastic job of getting in the mood for Halloween and the voting for best costumes and trunk/booth entries was very close! And now for the Winners – chosen by secret ballot and tallied using highly accurate accounting principles (drum roll, please):

Winners can claim their Certificate by coming to the November 17th PNA meeting (10:00 am at the Bert Nash Center) or by contacting PNA at Pinckney.Neighborhood@gmail.com. If you know who one of the “unknown” winners is, please let them know so they can claim their certificate!

And last but not least – remember that midnight Sunday November 11th is the deadline to submit your photos to the Pinckney Fall Photo Invitational. We’ll have a slide show with all entries at the November 17th PNA meeting and post the photo gallery on our website.

• Changing our Neighborhood Name

  Our neighborhood name of “Pinckney” was recently changed to “Pinkney.” This change occurred because Pinckney with a ‘c’ was associated with Charles Cotesworth Pinckney, a Revolutionary War general who signed the Constitution and who also was a slaveholder who believed slavery was fundamental to the American way of life (he owned a large plantation in South Carolina). Given this problematic history, neighborhood residents voted to change our neighborhood name. To learn more about the year-long process, go to our dedicated webpage. The final round of voting ultimately landed on the name of “Pinkney” in honor of William Pinkney, who gave a famous anti-slavery speech in 1789.
