Important PNA Meeting on Sat. Aug. 16th – LMH Meeting Room D-North

Our meeting on Saturday will focus on several very important matters for our neighborhood. The most pressing and important is the City’s letter of intent to purchase a large plot of land on McDonald Drive next to the turnpike entrance for a new Police Headquarters. There will be a ballot measure in November to pay for the facility. In addition, the City would like to sell a significant portion of the property not needed for the police facility to reduce the purchase cost. Requests have been submitted by three entities: for the school board would like to use part of the property for a garage/mechanical shop; someone wants to use part of the property to build a family fun park; and Lawrence Memorial Hospital would like to have a ballpark build in the property so it can take over Woody Park for a parking lot. The City’s report includes information about the police facility and proposed use of the property: https://www.lawrenceks.org/assets/agendas/cc/2014/07-22-14/LKPD_FACILITY_and_SITE_STUDY.pdf

We will also continue our discussion about a possible Downtown grocery store in the building formerly occupied by Border Books, and more recently by the Library. There is concern by the group supporting this project that something a different commercial venture is interested in the building. PNA has been asked for our position on supporting the grocery store.

We will also discuss the opening for a part-time PNA coordinator – applications are due August 22nd. See the PNA website for all the information and a copy of the application. (www.PinckneyNeighborhood.com)

And finally, we need to decide whether we will hold the Trunk-or-Treat and Food Drive again this year. If so, we need to start getting organized now – the last weekend in October before Halloween is October 25-26.

See you on Saturday!
