Pinckney’s First Neighborhood-wide Sale – Saturday Sept. 16

Would you like to participate in a Pinckney Neighborhood Garage Sale on September 16th? As a bonus, it will coincide with the Old West Lawrence (OWL) Neighborhood sale. OWL has successfully used this as a fundraiser for their Neighborhood Association for years. We hope to have similar results.

Here’s how it works:

Each household (or group of households or block, etc.) would have it’s own sale. We ask that you set aside a small portion of your proceeds for Pinckney Neighborhood Association – it will be up to you to determine the percentage or amount you would like to donate. If we have enough participants to sign-up in advance of the sale, we will celebrate  afterward at Clinton Park from 5-8:00 pm.

The planning committee will make yard signs to place around the neighborhood, place an ad in the LJWorld and promote it on social media. OWL said they would be happy to cross promote. If you have things to sell but don’t want to do it alone, we may be able to team you up with someone.

Please let us know through the facebook event (Pinckney Neighborhood Wide Sale) or contact us at pinckneyneighborhood@gmail.com if you are interested. Also, please share this with anyone else you would like to get on board!

Lawrence Solid Waste Collection Service Updates – effective May 1st

The City of Lawrence Solid Waste Division is updating collection practices to maximize use of staff and fleet resources, and balance work flow through the work week.

Residential collection services for trash, recycling, and yard waste will begin at 6:00 a.m. Residents should set out carts by 6:00 a.m. on their day of service or set out carts the night before, and remove empty carts from the curb within 24 hours after collection service.

Starting on May 1st, the Solid Waste Division will begin new residential trash collection routes. Lawrence will be split into five sections for trash collection on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. Thirty percent of our residential customers will be assigned a different day of the week for trash collection. The other 70% will not experience a trash day change. A detailed solid waste collection map is available online. Next week, solid waste collection crews will hang informational tags on trash carts for those customers who will be assigned a new trash day in May to remind them of their collection service day change.

Residential recycling collection service will continue to be provided every-other-week on the same day as the customer’s trash day. This online map shows the new areas for Recycle Week A and Recycle Week B within the Monday through Friday sections. During the first week in May, the Recycle Week A area will be collected. The following week will be Recycle Week B.

Weekly yard waste collection service will be provided on the same day as the customer’s trash day starting in May. In addition, yard waste will now be collected year-round (as winter weather permits). Approved set-out containers for yard waste collection are compostable paper yard waste bags and 95-gallon brown yard waste carts sold by the City. There are three payment options for the purchase of a yard waste cart: $60 one-time fee, $10 per month for 6 months, and $5 per month for 12 months. Yard waste cart orders can be placed online. The fee is added on the customer’s City utility bill and the cart is delivered to the customer’s residence. Bundles of brush will continue to be allowed for curbside collection as long as the bundles do not exceed 5 feet in length and 18 inches in diameter, do not weigh more than 65 pounds, and are tied with string or twine (no wire, duct tape, etc.). Yard waste may not be placed in plastic bags, cans, or trash and recycling carts.

For additional information, visit lawrenceks.org/swm.

Contact: Kathy Richardson, solid waste manager, (785) 832-3032.

Neighborhood plan update agenda item for April PNA meeting

Saturday, April 15, 10:00am at LMH Lower Level meeting room D-South

During the April PNA meeting, we will be discussing updates
to our neighborhood plan.

The Pinckney Neighborhood Plan was last updated in 1978 – almost 40 years ago. This document is the city’s planning document for the Pinckney neighborhood. The City Planning Department will be working with the neighborhood to update the Plan as soon as their schedule allows. The update will include reviews of current zoning, commercial uses, neighborhood goals, traffic safety and environmental concerns to make sure they match current trends and expectations.

This is a great opportunity to discuss concerns and make suggestions regarding the overal welfare and developments in the neighborhood. Join us on April 15 to help shape the neighborhood going forward!
