Life is busy! So to take just one burden off your plate, we’re extending the deadline to submit photos for the Pinckney Neighborhood Fall Photo Invitational until noon on Friday November 16th. The photos will be viewed at the PNA monthly meeting on November 17th and included in the Pinckney Fall Colors photo gallery. Check out a few of the photos that have been submitted.  You don’t need to be  professional. We’re just hoping to collect pictures of what you think make Pinckney Neighborhood a great place to live.

Submit your photos to Pinckney.Neighborhood@gmail.com

All we need is the name of the photographer (you can even make something up if you don’t want your real name used on the credits).  You can also add information about the subject matter and where and when the photo was taken.  We suggest a limit of 5 for each person submitting photos, but if you really have 6 or 7 that are just so great you have to send them in, we can be flexible.

AND THE WINNERS ARE . . .

This year’s Trunk-or-Treat and Food Drive was another great success!  Together, we collected about 100 pounds of food and raised $10 for Just Food Douglas County. Even though $10 doesn’t sound like a lot, it is enough to provide 50 meals to food insecure residents of Douglas County.

AND, we had a great variety of trunks and booths with games and treats to delight kids and adult. There were many cute, scary, creative and crazy costumes on display.   Everyone did a fantastic job of getting in the mood for Halloween and the voting for best costumes and trunk/booth entries was very close! If you took pictures, please send them in to Pinckney.Neighborhood@gmail.com.

And now for the Winners – chosen by secret ballot and tallied using highly accurate accounting principles (drum roll, please):

Best Baby/Toddler Costume:  “Gorilla” by Ryder (last name needed)

Best Girl’s Costume:  “Cleopatra” by Tabetha Peters

Best Boy’s Costume:  “Captain Hook” by (unknown/name needed)

Best Middle School Costume:  “Werewolf” by (unknown/name needed)

Best High School Costume:  no entries

Best Adult Costume:  “Anonymous”by Antony

Best Game/Activity:  “Haunted Chuck-a-Duck” by Steve & Kendall Braswell

Best Trunk/Booth Decorations:  “Dead Girl” by Addie Unekis & Family

Winners can claim their Certificate by coming to the November 17th PNA meeting (10:00 am at the Bert Nash Center) or by contacting PNA at Pinckney.Neighborhood@gmail.com. If you know who one of the “unknown” winners is, please let them know so they can claim their certificate!

And last but not least – remember that midnight Sunday November 11th is the deadline to submit your photos to the Pinckney Fall Photo Invitational. We’ll have a slide show with all entries at the November 17th PNA meeting and post the photo gallery on our website.

Trunk-or-Treat & Food Drive

Saturday October 27th from 4 to 6 pm – 4th St. & Arkansas St. – (Lot opens at 3 pm for set-up)

It’s back! Last year’s Trunk-or-Treat was a great success, but we were only getting started. This year will be even bigger and better! To refresh your memory, Trunk-or-Treat is an opportunity to decorate the trunk of a car, bed of a truck, back of a van, a table, a tent, a booth (you name it, really) in the Halloween spirit for kids (of all ages) to visit and enjoy. You might choose to pass out candy or other refreshments, or have a game of skill, silly entertainment or any other Halloween or carnival-like activity. Go it alone or join forces with other Pinckney neighbors. As long as it’s kid-friendly and in relative good taste, your imagination is your only limit. Everyone is welcome to participate, even if you don’t have an actual kid in your household. Awards will be given to the entries and costumes voted best by the crowd. If you’re not convinced, check out last year’s photos in the Photo Gallery!

Food Drive: In addition to having fun and getting to know your neighbors better, we will again have an opportunity to give back to the community by donating nonperishable food and money to Just Food Douglas County. Last year we collected 130 lbs of food! Let’s try to top that and challenge other neighborhoods to do the same!

LOCATION – Lawrence Memorial Hospital Parking Lot – 4th Street between Michigan & Arkansas Streets

  • Each vehicle/booth will be assigned a parking space (enter on Arkansas St.)
    • Set-up starts at 3:00 pm – please allow plenty of time to set-up before trunk-or-treaters arrive
  • Trunk-or-Treat opens for guests at 4:00 pm and ends at 6:00 pm
  • Vote for best entry/costume and win fun prizes!
  • Make a contribution to Just Food Douglas County of food or cash!
    • Even if you don’t attend the Trunk-or-Treat, you can drop off donations from 3 to 6 pm

MOST NEEDED FOOD ITEMS:
Peanut Butter (#1 item needed!), Canned Fruit, Jelly, Canned Vegetables, Canned Pasta (SpaghettiOs, etc.)
Also note that just a $1 donation purchases 5 meals!

Questions? Want to volunteer?  Contact PNA at:  Pinckney.Neighborhood@gmail.com
