PNA Monthly Meeting – Sat. Sept. 21 @ 10:00 am – LMH room D-South

Our next PNA meeting is scheduled for this Saturday, September 21, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital, meeting room D-South (lower level). We’ll start at 10:00 am. This month we will be discussing and planning for our upcoming fall activities: neighborhood parks clean-up day on October 12th and Trunk-or-Treat and Food Drive on October 26. We really want to boost our food drive collections and ensure our Trunk-or-Treat is fun and a great opportunity to make connections with other folks in the neighborhood. Please come with your ideas!

In addition, we have been asked to help the KU Crew team during its regatta on October 20th. Several of us are meeting with the crew team officials on Thursday and we’ll have more information about what that may entail by the time of our meeting on Saturday.

As always, if you have questions, concerns, ideas or suggestions, please come to the PNA meeting and voice them. If you can’t make it to the meetings, please send us an email.

• Changing our Neighborhood Name

  Our neighborhood name of “Pinckney” was recently changed to “Pinkney.” This change occurred because Pinckney with a ‘c’ was associated with Charles Cotesworth Pinckney, a Revolutionary War general who signed the Constitution and who also was a slaveholder who believed slavery was fundamental to the American way of life (he owned a large plantation in South Carolina). Given this problematic history, neighborhood residents voted to change our neighborhood name. To learn more about the year-long process, go to our dedicated webpage. The final round of voting ultimately landed on the name of “Pinkney” in honor of William Pinkney, who gave a famous anti-slavery speech in 1789.
