Welcome Eleanor Gardner – New PNA Communications Coordinator!

Please welcome Eleanor Gardner as the new PNA Communications  Coordinator!

We are delighted to bring Eleanor Gardner onboard! Eleanor will be a fantastic addition to the PNA team, with lots of communications experience and a deep commitment for getting involved to make positive change.

Eleanor and her husband, Will, have lived at the corner of W. 4th and Mississippi for two years with their pets, Scout (dog) and Rascal (cat). Eleanor is passionate about community outreach, and her daytime job is in the public programs division of the KU Natural History Museum. She is excited to get more involved with PNA and to foster connections (from a safe distance!) around the neighborhood.

• Changing our Neighborhood Name

  Our neighborhood name of “Pinckney” was recently changed to “Pinkney.” This change occurred because Pinckney with a ‘c’ was associated with Charles Cotesworth Pinckney, a Revolutionary War general who signed the Constitution and who also was a slaveholder who believed slavery was fundamental to the American way of life (he owned a large plantation in South Carolina). Given this problematic history, neighborhood residents voted to change our neighborhood name. To learn more about the year-long process, go to our dedicated webpage. The final round of voting ultimately landed on the name of “Pinkney” in honor of William Pinkney, who gave a famous anti-slavery speech in 1789.
